The Mountain Plains Regional Disaster Health Response System (MPRDHRS) is hosting an Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS) Provider/Instructor Course at the Intermountain Center for Disaster Preparedness (ICDP) (West Valley, UT) from September 11-13, 2024. The 2-day Provider course provides healthcare professionals comprehensive training in treating patients exposed to hazardous materials. In addition to the 2-day course, there is a half-day course offered for healthcare professionals who would like to become instructors. Course capacity is limited and we encourage early registration. The cost of course fees and materials will be covered by the MPRDHRS grant for eligible registrants in HHS Region VIII (Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah).

In-Person (3 days) & Virtual (2 days) | July 30-Aug 1
UNMC’s Global Center for Health Security and the FDA-University of Texas Medical Branch Collaborative Program are hosting the FDA-sponsored “Achieving Data Quality and Integrity in Clinical Trials Involving High Consequence Pathogens” clinical course from July 30-August 1, 2024. There are no fees associated with course attendance, and the event is in-person and virtual. However, seating for in-person attendance is limited.
This three day (two days for virtual attendees) interactive course allows participants to enhance knowledge and integrate practical considerations for the planning and operation of clinical research protocols involving medical countermeasures for high consequence pathogens. Course participants acquire knowledge through innovative learning platforms and problem-based scenarios that help identify and mitigate barriers to data quality and integrity in domestic and international barrier environments.
Day 3 of the course (for in-person attendees only) will focus on Workplace Risk Assessments, Donning and Doffing of high level PPE, Waste Management, and Simulation Exercises in Mock Barrier Environment. These activities will take place at UNMC’s Training, Simulation, and Quarantine Center (TSQC). The Training, Simulation, and Quarantine Center provides a 6-bed high-fidelity simulated biocontainment unit training center, emergency operations center, laboratory, multipurpose room for incident management and skills training, and is the only federally-funded, 20-bed National Quarantine Unit (NQU) in the United States.
This course is submitted for Continuing Education credits for nurses and quality assurance professionals. Details will be posted closer to course dates and more information can be found on the event webpage.

UNMC’s GCHS’ National Infection Control Strengthening (NICS) team’s "Behind the Mask" Webinar Series aims to Analyze the fundamental components of a robust Infection Prevention and Control Program, Interpret guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practice literature for a successful application to the infection prevention program, Utilize identified strategies to incorporate best practice into Infection Prevention programs, Integrate Infection Prevention program data to target prevention and improvement strategies, and Combine knowledge acquired to enhance collaboration and teamwork within the healthcare system. The webinars are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 12pm CST.
